Estimate Your Auto Payment

Figure out an affordable car payment, how much you could save with refinancing, what payments you can afford and more.

How to Use This Auto Loan Calculator

The calculator works with three inputs:

  • Loan Amount: The price of the vehicle minus any down payment or trade-in value.
  • Interest Rate (APR): The annual rate you’ll pay on the loan. Not sure what rate you’d qualify for? Contact Columbine FCU for a quick rate estimate.
  • Loan Term: How many months you’ll repay the loan. Common terms are 48, 60, and 72 months. Shorter terms mean higher monthly payments but less interest paid overall.

The result shows your estimated monthly payment. You can also compare different term lengths side by side to find the right balance between a payment you can handle today and the total cost of the loan.

Calculating Payments for New vs. Used Vehicles

The calculator works for both new and used vehicles, but keep a few things in mind as you run the numbers:

New Vehicles

New cars typically qualify for the lowest rates. If you’re financing a new vehicle, use the purchase price minus any down payment as your loan amount. Don’t forget to factor in Colorado sales tax and dealer fees when estimating your total loan.

Used Vehicles

Used vehicle rates are typically slightly higher than new, and loan terms may be shorter depending on the age and mileage of the vehicle. Columbine FCU finances both dealer and private-party purchases — contact us for current used vehicle rate tiers.

Already Have a Car Loan? Run the Refinance Numbers.

If you financed your vehicle at a dealership or through another lender, you may be paying a rate that’s higher than it needs to be. Use this calculator to see what your payment could look like with a lower rate — then reach out to Columbine FCU to see if you qualify for an auto refinance.

Enter your current remaining balance as the loan amount, plug in Columbine FCU’s rate, and compare the result to what you’re paying now. Even a 1–2% reduction in rate can add up to hundreds of dollars saved over the life of the loan.

Auto Loan Questions — Answered

Credit unions like Columbine FCU typically offer rates well below those of banks or dealerships. Members with strong credit often qualify for the most competitive rates available. Contact Columbine FCU to get a rate estimate based on your situation.

A common rule of thumb is to keep your total monthly vehicle costs — including the payment, insurance, and fuel — at or below 15–20% of your take-home pay. Use the calculator above to work backward from a payment you’re comfortable with to find a purchase price that fits your budget.

A 48-month term means a higher monthly payment but less interest paid over the life of the loan. A 60-month term lowers the monthly payment but increases the total interest you’ll pay. Use the calculator to compare both options side by side.
